  1. I think you have to be a bit careful when you talk about those deaths that are directly attributed to COVID -19 in the US. It is common practice in the US to list 3 or 4 reasons for death on any death certificate as complications noted that arise from the initial illness. So that the compilation of statistics of COVID -19 deaths is mildly subjective. For instance if you visited VP Mike Pence’s website (as he is charge of the pandemic) those experts will want to try and dampen the numbers down as far as they reasonably can, but not by much. You risk losing a bit of credibility by just taking the bald numbers like that and then going on and forming conclusions.

My numbers come from the CDC, Worldometer and the Australian government. In fact the 10,000 Americans who died from only Covid-19 is a CDC statistic.

  2. How you approach your work is your prerogative but I think you risk undermining your other good work if you persist with factual figures taken out of context.
But to be fair it’s a complicated matter. Assessment of COVID 19 is via death certificates which typically list 3 or 4 factors as causes of death. So the 200,000 odd includes those cases where the underlying cause of death is COVID 19, although there may be 2 or 3 contributing factors that arise to hasten death and is included on the death certificates. The 10,000 or so you quote would be those cases which only listed COVID 19. That is factually correct but can be misleading.
The National Centre for Health Statistics (NCHS) uses incoming data from death certificates to produce provisional COVID-19 death counts. COVID-19 deaths are identified using a new ICD–10 code. When COVID-19 is reported as a cause of death – or when it is listed as a “probable” or “presumed” cause — the death is coded as U07.1. These are the statistics that are used by the CDC and other sites.
To give you an idea of data here is few more stats.
Deaths where both COVID 19 and Pneumonia are listed on the death certificate 88,000
Deaths involving Pneumonia, influenza and COVID 19 310,000.

I have not taken any figures out of context.

The truth is that this panic is well overdone and it's about time we all stopped pretending that this is the Black Death or the Spanish Flu.
